This section is engaged in immediate dissemination of news related to the daily activities of the State Government. It handles news and photo coverage of official programmes of Chief Minister and other ministers; co-ordination of official programmes through SMS alert; co-ordination of press conferences of Chief Minister and other ministers; media coverage for press meet of Chief Minister and other ministers; issuance of routine press releases, special press releases, news follow-ups, directions, notifications to all media through facilities like e-mail, print, fax even on holidays.

    Timely publication of press releases and photographs through official website of the department; publication of special releases on the occasions like anniversary celebration of the government, Kerala Piravi etc.; organising special press meets; preparation and distribution of press accreditation, editorial accreditation, press facility and press identity cards and timely renewal of these cards;  co-ordination of media during VVIP visits like providing special identity cards issued through police department, providing vehicle facility for media for coverage; providing special identity cards issued through General administration department during Independence day and Republic day celebrations organised by the State; organising press tours to sites of news value in situations of crisis; organising seminars , workshops or other related programmes on special occasions to commemorate special media/press days; complete responsibility of selection and distribution process of State Media Award and Swadeshabhimani- Kesari Puraskaram; maintenance of Press Room and PR chamber; liaison work to strengthen the bond between media and the government and to strengthen the bond between inter-state media in terms of government policies; Media co-ordination among the offices of Chief Minister, other ministers, secretaries, Niyamasabha and Speaker; functions overtime during Niyamasabha sessions; Media centres are arranged for Sabarimala-Mandalavilakku festival, Onam celebrations, International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK) etc.; Special Media Cells function on polling and counting days.

    Special programmes are organised to commemorate the State government’s anniversary celebrations; Distribution of government publications like official invitations for various functions, Media handbook, Government Diary, Calendar etc. to media organisations; Publication of state-wide results of examinations, dissemination of information even after respective duty time to media, through various services like telephonic communication; media co-ordination during the time of demise of VVIPs; Advices and suggestions on the matters of press/ media at State level and Subscription rate for News agencies are the responsibilities of Information Officer (Press Release). He/she is also entrusted with dissemination of information under RTI Act as State Assistant Public Information Officer for the department.
